Srinagar: Security forces have launched a joint operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district after intelligence inputs about the presence of three to four foreign terrorists in the Hiranagar sector’s Saniyal area.
A fresh encounter broke out in the Juthana area after terrorists opened fire on security personnel during a cordon and search operation.
The firefight broke out near Jakhole village in Ghati Juthana, Rajbagh, approximately 30 km from Hiranagar sector, where an earlier gun battle took place on Sunday (March 23). Officials said reinforcements were rushed to the spot, and an exchange of fire between the two sides was ongoing when last reports were received.
Initial reports suggest that two security personnel were also injured and taken to a base hospital, while one terrorist is believed to have been wounded. However, no official confirmation has been issued regarding casualties or arrests.
As per a report, Hiranagar, where a terrorist hideout was uncovered, but the suspects managed to escape. The gunfight in Juthana remains ongoing as forces continue their efforts to neutralize the threat.
Security forces have intensified operations, deploying additional personnel and using drones to track down the terrorists.
