20 Women Gangraped In Rajasthan; Case Filed Against Civic Body Officials
Jaipur: About 20 women have been allegedly gangraped under the guise of providing Anganwadi jobs in Rajasthan. Among the accused are civic body officials.
A case of gangrape has been registered against Sirohi Municipal Council chairperson Mahendra Mevada and former municipal council Commissioner Mahendra Choudhary.
The incident came to light after a woman from Pali district complained to police that she was among 20 women who were lured with Anganwadi job opportunities by the accused.
The accused allegedly filmed the sexual assaults and later blackmailed the women. The civic body officials demanded Rs 5 lakh each from the women, or else they threatened to share the footage on social media.
The complainant said she and the other women travelled to Sirohi some months ago to work in Anganwadi. They met the accused, who arranged accommodation and meals.
However, the food they were served contained sedatives. After consuming it, the women were subjected to sexual assault, the complainant alleged.
On regaining consciousness, the women confronted the accused who admitted to deceiving them and forcing them into engaging in physical relationships.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Paras Choudhary said that the women had previously filed a false complaint.
However, following a petition by eight women, the Rajasthan High Court has ordered a case to be registered against the accused.
