200-Foot National Flag On A Grand Procession In Odisha’s Berhampur
Berhampur: In a colorful and lively procession on Wednesday morning in Berhampur, 350 children, instructors, and over 200 members of the Rotary Club paraded with a 200-foot-long by 4-foot-wide national flag.
The organisers described it as a modest start towards promoting patriotism and raising public knowledge of the significance of Independence Day.
Rotary Club of Berhampur’s president, RL Tarun, and zonal chair, Mihir Ranjan Panigrahi added, “We also aim at educating people about the sacrifices of our heroes for independence.”
Holding the tricolour above their heads, students and Rotarians shouted slogans – “Bharat Mata ki Jai,” “Vande Mataram,” and “Jai Hind”.
A musical band playing patriotic songs led the tricolour march, which started at the iconic Khallikote University main gate, crossed Old Bus Stand in Gandhi Nagar, and returned covering a distance of nearly one kilometre.
It took 10 joints in every 20 feet to stitch the 200-foot-flag which was arranged by Rotary Club’s District Governor Yagnasis Mohapatra.
The procession was organised by Rotary Clubs of Berhampur, Rotary Club of Berhampur East, Rotary Club Central and Rotary Club of Berhampur Innovative in association with Interact Club of DAV, Sankalp, Inner Wheel Club Berhampur, Rotaract Club of Vedbyash and SIMS.
