20K SHG Members In Odisha’s Ganjam To Be Trained In Tackling COVID-19

Berhampur: Ganjam administration has decided to train more than 20,000 women self-help group (WSHG) members and volunteers of Mission Shakti to contain the spread of the coronavirus at the panchayat level.

Amid a spike in the largest number of positive cases, the district administration, in collaboration with the Health and Family Welfare Department, and Department of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti, has launched a massive community training programme for Swyamsidhha volunteers from WSHGs. 

The programme ‘Aam Swasthya, Aam Dayitwa’, (Our Health, Our Responsibility) was formally launched at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in the presence of Ganjam Collector Vijay Amruta Kulange.

The responsibilities of the trained SHG members will include:

  • Monitoring people placed under home quarantine after the completion of the 21-day institutional quarantine.
  • Informing health experts if they develop any symptoms during quarantine.
  • Guiding people about various preventive measures to tackle COVID-19.

Ganjam has reported 358 cases of COVID-19 so far, of which 83 are active. As many as 272 persons have recovered from the disease and three have died.
