Mumbai: A massive fire broke out in the furniture market at Azad Chowk in Maharashtra’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, damaging around 22 shops on Thursday morning. Fire tenders rushed to the spot after receiving the information.
No loss of life was reported in the incident, a police official said.
“Fire broke out in furniture shops. The fire might have started due to a short circuit. The fire has been brought under control. The work of extinguishing the fire is going on,” the official added.
A fire official reported that the blaze broke out around 5:00 am in the market at Central Naka in the Azad Chowk area, where several furniture shops are located. He stated that 15 to 20 shops were damaged.
“We got a call around 5:30 am about the blaze, and six fire engines were rushed to the spot,” he said to India TV.
Later, fire engines from the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) and Garware Industries also arrived to assist in controlling the fire. Efforts were ongoing to douse the flames, and the cause of the fire was yet to be determined, the official added.
