Bhubaneswar: As many as 24 places in Odisha recorded maximum day temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more with Sonepur turning the hottest location.
According to the evening bulletin of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), of 24 places that recorded temperature of 40 degree Celsius or more, 4 places registered 44 degree or more on the day. Sonepur led the table with 44.5 degree Celsius, followed by Angul with 44.1 degree and Jharsuguda and Balangir 44 degree Celsius.
As many as 11 places recorded 43 degree Celsius or more. Sambalpur sizzled at 43.8 degree Celsius, followed by Sundargarh and Boudh with 43.5, Bargarh 43.4, Titlagarh 43.2, Hirakud 43.1 and Deogarh 43.
The temperature in Bhubaneswar, which had come down to 39.6 degree Celsius on Tuesday, shot up to 40.3 degree while Cuttack registered 39.5 degree on the day.

The IMD has issued yellow warning for next 5 days stating that the heatwave condition will prevail in most areas of the state till April 30.
