IMD Extends Heatwave Warning Till April 30; Check Details

Bhubaneswar: Heatwave conditions prevailed over the districts of north interior Odisha in the last 24 hours while light to moderate rain and thunderstorms occurred at one or two places over Rayagada, Gajapati and Ganjam districts in south Odisha in the last 24 hours.

Boudh was the hottest place in the state at 44 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heatwave conditions in the following districts till April 30. In some respite from the heatwave, a few districts are likely to get light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

The IMD advised children, elderly and patients to avoid heat exposure and remain dehydrated.

April 28 (Till 8.30 am)

Yellow warning: Heatwave conditions very likely to prevail over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Bolangir districts.

Light to moderate rain/ thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.

April 28 (8.30 am) to April 29 (8.30 am)

Yellow warning: Heatwave conditions very likely to prevail over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Bolangir districts.

Light rain/ thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Jajpur and Bhadrak districts.

April 29 (8.30 am) to April 30 (8.30 am)

Yellow warning: Heatwave conditions very likely to prevail over Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh and Bolangir districts.

Light rain/ thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Balasore and Bhadrak districts.

April 30 (8.30 am) to May 1 (8.30 am)

Yellow warning: Heatwave conditions very likely to prevail at one or two places over Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir and Kalahandi districts.

Light to moderate rain/ thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Jajpur and Kendrapara districts.

May 1 (8.30 am) to May 2 (8.30 am)

Light to moderate rain/ thunderstorms very likely to occur at one or two places over coastal Odisha, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts.

There will be no large change in maximum temperature during the next 4-5 days in the state. Maximum temperature is likely to be above normal by 3-5 degrees Celsius at many places in interior Odisha and likely to be above normal by 2-3 degrees Celsius at a few places in coastal Odisha. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during day time between 11 am and 3 pm.
