Nabarangpur: A life has been lost to inhuman traditional practice of branding in Nabarangpur district.
The deceased, 28-day-old baby boy, reportedly died after being branded with hot bangles.
The incident took place at Petuguda village where a mother branded the infant to cure him of cold and fever.
However, condition of the baby worsened at around 8 pm on Thursday. His parents, Rama Jani and Bharati, then took him to the district headquarters hospital where he died three hours later while undergoing treatment.
A similar incident had taken place in the district on June 19 when a couple allegedly branded their six-month-old baby boy with a hot bangle at Khutiguda village under Papadahandi block.
The child became very serious after the branding and was admitted to Dabugaon community health centre. He was later referred to the district headquarters hospital where he recovered after treatment.
An anganwadi worker of the same village had lodged a police complaint against the parents of the child for this inhuman practice.
