With this, Manu has become first shooter from India to win two Olympic medals and also the first Indian athlete post independence to bag two medals in a single edition of the Games.
In the pre-independence Olympics, Norman Pritchard, a British-Indian, won two medals at the 1900 Summer Games. He secured a silver medal in both the men’s 200m sprint and the 200m hurdles.

On July 28, 22-year-old Manu made her way into the history books as the first Indian woman to win an Olympic medal in shooting, while also ending India’s 12-year drought for a podium finish in shooting at the Games. Manu is also the 1st woman shooter from India to reach an Olympic final in an individual event in the last 20 years and the fifth Indian to win a medal in shooting.
