Koraput: Three persons were swept away by gushing floodwaters while trying to cross a submerged bridge on a motorcycle in Odisha’s Koraput district on Thursday.
As per information, the incident took place on the bridge connecting Malda and Kailari under Borigumma block of the district as water level had gone up sharply following incessant rain. The bridge was reportedly under nearly five feet water.
Despite a very strong flow water, the three tried to cross the bridge in a highly risky manner. They were halfway through when the motorcycle overturned under the impact of strong current. All the three, stated to be residents of Jamuguda village in the neighbouring Nabarangpur district, and the bike slipped downstream.
Locals immediately rushed to the site and managed to pull all three persons out of the water. All of them are stated to be safe and stable. However, the motorcycle was swept away and efforts are on to trace it.
The three had reportedly gone to Kotpad for work on Tuesday and were returning to their village in Nabarangpur district when the mishap took place
