Berhampur: Three persons were critically injured as two miscreants allegedly hurled a country-made bomb in an extortion case in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place at Nua Jogiapalli village under Nimakhandi police limits in the district. The three victims of the bomb explosion have been identified as Kartik Patra, Kalia Patra and M Mahesh Dora of Jogiapalli.
While Kartik, who owns a truck, was about to return home after paying the wages to his workers at the village in the afternoon, when Kalia and Mahesh came on a bike. Kalia hurled the country-made bomb at Kartik. But the bomb exploded on his hand.
On the impact of the explosion, Kalia’s hand was seriously injured, while Mahesh sustained injuries on face and Kartik on his back.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot and rushed all the three critically injured persons to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
Preliminary investigation of the police revealed that Kalia attacked Kartik for not paying the extortion money, the sources said.
