Jajpur: In a crackdown on drugs trafficking, three persons were arrested and around 52 grams of brown sugar seized from them by Excise Department officials in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Sunday.
Sources said a raid was conducted by the excise officials near Ballabhi Ghat under Jajpur Town police limits. The accused were seated on a motorcycle and engaged in selling brown sugar when excise officials and caught them red-handed.
Officials said the seized contraband is estimated to be worth around Rs 5.20 lakh in the illegal market. Following the seizure, the Excise Department arrested all three individuals and forwarded them to court for judicial proceedings.
The operation is part of an intensified drive against drug trafficking in the district. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the narcotics and to identify possible links in the illegal supply network.
