Koraput: In a tragic incident, three students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) drowned in the Kolab reservoir in Odisha’s Koraput district on Saturday.

As per information, the mishap took place after the students went to the reservoir to take a bath following completion of their CBSE Class X examination.

The students were at the reservoir when the incident occurred.

The deceased students have been identified as Sandip Pujari and Ramakant Patnaik from Malkangiri district, and Manmath Samal from Koraput. Rescue operations were conducted, and the bodies were recovered.

After noticing the incident, local residents rushed to the spot and managed to rescue the students from the water. They were immediately shifted to Shaheed Laxman Nayak (SLN) Medical College and Hospital in Koraput for emergency treatment. However, the doctors declared all three students dead upon arrival.

Police initiated a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led the students to enter the reservoir.

Preliminary inquiries suggest the students may have ventured there without proper supervision, though the precise reasons remain under probe.

The families of the deceased accused the school authorities of negligence, questioning the lack of adequate monitoring of hostel students.
