Bhubaneswar: Three jewellery shops in Bhubaneswar were slapped with hefty fines for allegedly putting up advertisements at public places without obtaining the required permission from the civic authorities.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) collected Rs 3.50 lakh from these three shops. While one among them paid Rs 1.50 lakh, the other two were fined Rs 1 lakh each, the TOI reported.
An individual or agency is required to go through certified empanelled advertisers to advertise outdoors.
In June, the BMC has issued a notification, mentioning designated advertising agencies, to put a stop to unauthorised hoardings in the city. “Any individual or establishment intending to display advertisements within the BMC territory will have to approach one of the above agencies else the same will be deemed unauthorised and subject to immediate removal apart from the fine,” it said.
