Sambalpur: Three persons were killed after a speeding car rammed into a stationary truck on National Highway 55 near Naksapali in Odisha’s Sambalpur district on Sunday afternoon.
As per information, the mishap took place near Nakaspali under Dhanupali police station limits. The collision left three people dead, though their identities are yet to be confirmed. Police have filed a case and launched an investigation.
Sources said the truck, loaded with ash, was parked along the highway when the car, travelling from Sambalpur town towards Maneswar, lost control and crashed into it around 4 pm. The impact of the collision was so severe that the car was crushed, trapping the occupants inside. Local residents rushed to the spot and immediately alerted police. Victims were rescued with the assistance of bystanders.
Two bodies were recovered from the mangled vehicle and sent for post-mortem examination. A third occupant, critically injured, was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, but was declared dead upon arrival.
Police are conducting a probe to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, while the incident has once again highlighted safety concerns on the busy highway.
