Phulbani: Three persons were killed in two separate elephant attacks in Paburia section of G. Udayagiri in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, triggering panic among villagers.
According to sources, Basudev Pradhan and Kirtan Bagarti from Damba village had gone to fetch firewood from the forest on Friday when they were attacked and trampled to death by a wild elephant.
In another incident, 30-year-old Duri Pradhan of Paburia village was killed in elephant attack on Saturday morning.
Following the incidents, people from nearby villages are staying indoors and not stepping out of their homes, in a bid to avoid encountering the elephant.
Villagers lamented that the forest department failed to alert them about elephant movement in the area.
Meanwhile, the Forest department is tracking the jumbo movement using drones.
