Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh): Three members of a family based in Bhubaneswar were killed and two others critically injured when their car collided with a truck on the National Highway near Baruva, in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam district.
The Hyundai car (registration number OD01-W8485) was travelling from Bhubaneswar towards Visakhapatnam when a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction jumped the road divider while attempting to avoid a two-wheeler. The truck rammed into the car, crushing the vehicle before veering off the highway and entering a nearby farmland.
Local residents and officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) rushed to the spot. The victims were pulled out of the mangled car and shifted to a nearby hospital.
All occupants of the car were from the same Bhubaneswar family, according to information from local officials.
Among the injured is a young girl whose condition is learnt to be critical.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances leading to the road mishap.
The incident has once again highlighted safety concerns on busy stretches of the national highway, where reckless driving and poor road discipline often lead to fatal mishaps.
