Rourkela: Police have arrested 3 persons for allegedly stealing costly goods while working as servers in a marriage feast in Rourkela city of Odisha’s Sundargarh district.
Speaking about the arrest at a press conference on Saturday, Santa Nutan Samad, DSP, Rourkela said during a marriage feast organised at Maharaja Agrasen Bhavan in Raghunathpalli on March 11 night, several gifts and costly goods including jewellery and mobile phones were found stolen from the first floor of the building. The hosts had filed a complaint at Raghunathpalli police station in this connection.
After registering a case, the police started investigation to trace the culprits in the crime. During investigation, the police suspected the three persons who had worked as waiters in the marriage function. During interrogation of those persons during detention, they admitted to have stolen the goods.
The police recovered 70 gram of gold jewellery, 4 mobile phones, two smart watches and other valuables worth over Rs 4 lakh from their possession. Besides the three persons, who were involved in the theft, the police have also arrested two other persons who had bought stolen jewellery from the former.
The DSP said the three persons had obtained a loan after mortgaging the stolen jewellery in a private finance company and purchased a new two-wheeler. They had sold the rest of the jewellery to the two receivers.
The arrested trio are habitual offenders and several cases are pending against them in different police stations of the city, she added.
