Berhampur: At least 30 students of Ravenshaw University, Cuttack, were injured when the bus carrying them overturned near Taptapani Hanuman temple in Ganjam district on Monday evening.
According to sources, 59 students of the varsity had gone to the spot for a picnic and the bus skidded off the road and overturned while they were returning to Cuttack from Gonda Hati in Gajapati district.
Locals rushed to the spot hearing the students scream for help and rescued the injured. Digapahandi Fire Service personnel soon joined the rescue work. The injured students were later admitted to a local hospital. Condition of seven students is stated to be critical.
Driver of the bus fled the spot soon after the accident.
It is suspected that the bus overturned after its brakes failed, the sources added.
