Paradip: Around 30 students of a school reportedly fell ill after taking iron tablets at Paradip town in Odisha’s Jgatsinghpur district on Monday.

As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Lock Pada Primary Schook at Paradip after around 100 students were given iron pills by the teachers.

Shortly after taking the tablets, around 30 students complained of stomach ache, nausea and uneasiness. Some of the students reportedly complained of vomiting.

The affected students were immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre at Atharabanki in the port town.

A doctor at the CHC claimed that the expiry date of the iron tablets given to the students was already over which could be the reason for health issues encountered by some of those who consumed it.

The students have been provided with necessary medical treatment and they are under observation at present. They are stable, doctors said.

Teachers of the school, however, claimed that the medicines were supplied only a few days ago and they were not aware whether the expiry date had passed.
