3,333 Challans Issued To Helmet-Less Riders In 2 Days In Odisha
Cuttack: In the ongoing state-wide special drive against helmet-less driving, a total of 3,333 challans have been issued to the violators and 793 DLs were confiscated for suspension in the last two days.
It has been found that many accidents on national and state highways are related to two-wheelers. People wear helmets in urban areas due to strict rules but they do not follow the same on national and state highways where safety is most needed, stated a release by the State Transport Authority.
According to the accident report, 1,308 people were killed in road accidents in 2021. Most of them were not wearing helmet, the STA report stated.
Under the Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019, a fine of Rs 1,000 is levied for driving without a helmet and license will be suspended for three months.
Special drive against the helmets riders which started on May 15 and will continue till May 21.
