335 Teacher Posts Vacant In 12 State-Run Medical Colleges, Minister Tells Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar: Even as Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Vimsar), Burla, is in the process of appointing 46 assistant professors on contract, Health and Family Welfare Minister Niranjan Pujari on Monday said 355 of 1656 sanctioned professor, associate professor and assistant professor posts are vacant in 12 government medical colleges in Odisha.

Replying to a query in Odisha Assembly, the minister informed that 74 professor, 171 associate professor and 110 assistant professor posts are lying vacant.

In VAMSAR, assistant professors are being appointed in the departments of anatomy, anaesthesiology, biochemistry, community medicine, clinical haematology, emergency medicine, ENT, endocrinology, FMT, general surgery, general medicine, gastroenterology, nephrology, neuro-surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, ophthalmology, orthopaedic, physiology, paediatrics, pathology, pharmacology, paediatrics surgery, radio diagnosis, radiotherapy and transfusion medicine. The recruitment of 46 assistant professors on contract will be a big boost for the institute, which has facing a shortage of faculty after MBBS seats were increased from 150 to 200. Similarly, it has around 300 PG seats, VIMSAR sources said.
