4 Fake Maoists Running Extortion Racket Arrested In Odisha’s Koraput

Koraput: Police have arrested 4 persons for allegedly extorting money from the people by claiming themselves to be Maoists in Odisha’s Koraput district.

According to sources, the 4-member fake Maoist gang including 3 young men and a woman used to threaten the people for extortion. They were telling their targeted person that if he failed to give the money, they would produce him in ‘Praja Court’ where he would face dire consequences.

After a victim filed a written complaint against the 4 persons at Padua police station, a special team was formed on the direction of Koraput district SP Abhinav Sonkar. The team including IICs of Damanjodi and Semiliguda and DVF personnel was led by SDPO, Nandipur.

The SP told the media that the special team traced the fake Maoists and kept a track of their movement. “All the four members of the gang were nabbed while they were taking extortion money from a person,” he said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Rabindra Mahanandia, Dhiren Mahanandia, Badal Mahanandia and Kajal Mahanandia. All of them belong to Koraput. The police have also seized Rs 50,000 in cash, a two-wheeler and 5 mobile phones from their possession.
