Koraput: Four inmates of Jeypore sub-jail in Koraput district have tested positive for COVID-19.
The jail authorities have swung into action and sanitised the jail premises to prevent the virus from infecting others.
From now, new prisoners will be tested for COVID-19 and taken in only after they test negative for the virus. The new prisoner will have to stay in quarantine for 14 days in the first phase and seven days in the second phase.
A prisoner had come to jail from Baipariguda on March 17. He was COVID-19 negative in antigen test and was kept in quarantine for 14 days. Later, he tested positive in RT-PCR test after the quarantine period.
It is suspected that the other three inmates might have come in contact with him and got infected, said sources. The jail authority said they have been getting the jail premises sanitised every week to keep the virus at bay.
