Bhubaneswar: A four-month-old baby boy was allegedly stolen from Platform No. 3 of Nirakarpur railway station in Odisha’s Khurda district late on Tuesday.
According to the complaint filed with Government Railway Police (GRP), Prashant Pradhan, his wife Chinu Parida from Kalmati village under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh along with their infant took a DMu from Kalupadaghata station and arrived at Nirakarpur while en route to Tamil Nadu. The incident took place between 1 am to 2 pm when they were resting on the platform. The mother was cradling the infant in her lap when an unidentified person suddenly snatched the baby and fled the spot. The parents immediately raised an alarm but could not apprehend the miscreant.
The distraught couple promptly approached the RPF but were allegedly shooed away. Later, they lodged a formal complaint with the GRP. Railway Police have since registered a case and are examining CCTV footage from the station and nearby areas as well as questioning the witnesses. As of now, no arrests have been made and the child is yet to be rescued.
Nirakarpur station, located in the Khurda region, serves as a key halt for several express and passenger trains on the Howrah-Chennai main line.
