Berhampur: At least seven persons were critically injured in a violent clash between residents of two villages in Chikiti area of Odisha’s Ganjam district over the opening of a river mouth.
As per information, the residents of Katuri and Rameyapatna villages located under Chikiti block fought a pitched battle on Monday, leading to grievous injuries to at least seven persons. All the injured persons were admitted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Following the violence, police arrested 40 people, including 19 from Katuri and 21 from Rameyapatna, for their involvement in the incident.
While two separate cases were registered at Golanthara police station over the incident, the authorities imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 on BNS and deployed three platoons of police force in the affected areas to prevent any untoward incident.
The injured included residents of both the villages. A police team has also been deployed at the hospital where they are undergoing treatment to coordinate with the doctors during the treatment, said Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M.
