Malkangiri: A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Odisha’s Malkangiri district for allegedly raping a differently-abled 12-year-old girl from Koya tribe.
The accused has been identified as Bindu Barai, a resident of MV-43.
According to sources, the incident took place on December 5 when the survivor’s parents were away from home and came to light on December 17, when her mother filed a complaint with the police, which registered a case under relevant sections, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and took the suspect into custody. He was produced in court and remanded to judicial custody following rejection of his bail application.
A medical examination of the girl has been conducted, and she is recovering at home, police said.
The family belongs to a group of displaced tribal households that relocated years ago due to security concerns in the region, which has a history of Maoist activity.
