Malkangiri: The number of COVID-19 cases in Malkangiri district touched 266 on Friday with overnight addition of 54 new patients.
Among the positive cases, 28 are symptomatic and 26 asymptomatic cases. Eight have travel history while 47 are local cases.
According to the tweet by the district administration, these cases have been reported from Mathili (2), Khairput (6), Malkangiri municipality (21), Balimela NAC (21), Kalimela (1), Malkangiri block (3).
Among the two positive cases detected from Mathili, one is a close contact of a previous patient, COVID warrior, while another travelled to a hotspot district of Odisha.
Among the six positive of Khairput, three travelled to a hotspot district, two are close contacts of a previous positive patient while one is a Tamil Nadu returnee in Temporary Medical Centre (TMC) at Govindpali.
One positive case from Kalimela is a Delhi returnee and close contact of previous positive patient, housed at a TMC at MV-90.
Of three cases in Malkangiri block, one is an asymptomatic COVID warrior and close contact of a previous positive patient while another two have a travel history to hotspot district of Odisha
Among the 21 cases in Malkangiri Municipality, 16 are close contacts of previous positive cases while five are symptomatic referrals from flu and fever clinic and 10 are COVID warriors.
Among the 21 positive cases in Balimela NAC, 18 are close direct contact of previous positives while three are symptomatic cases found in House to House intensive surveillance and screening.
The district administration said contact tracing of the new patients is underway.
With 128 recoveries, Malkangiri district now has 138 active cases.
