Berhampur: A day after the death of an Indian Army jawan in an assault, the police have arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in the incident in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
Speaking to the media on Friday, Ganjam SP Jagmohan Meena said Chamakhandi police in the district have arrested J Kalyani Patra, CH Sekhar and B Cheneya of Kalipalli village and B Bulu Patra and CH Biki Kumar Patra of Nimakhandi in connection with the death of Army jawan J Dileshwar Patra.
The police have also seized two bikes and two mobile phones from the accused, the SP said.
As per an FIR lodged with the police, the jawan, identified as J Dileshwar of Kalipalli village under Chamakhandi police station, was posted in Durgapur of West Bengal and had come home on leave around a week ago.
He was allegedly assaulted by some miscreants while returning home from Gopalpur after watching a cricket match on Sunday. The incident reportedly took place at Haripur street in Chamakhandi.
Patra was rushed to a hospital in Berhampur and later shifted to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated. But he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the hospital on Thursday.
