Deogarh: Five children were hospitalised as they fell ill after consuming fertiliser mistaking it as salt in Odisha’s Deogarh district on Sunday.
According to sources, the children in the age group of 5 to 10 years were playing in their village Saruali under Barkote police limits in the district in the afternoon. They got some lemons from the garden of a villager and wanted to have it with salt.
One of the children went to his house to get salt and found a bag containing potash. He mistook it as salt and took a handful of it to the group.
Soon after consuming the lemons with the fertiliser, all the children fell ill. As they complained of illness to their families, the villagers rushed them to a hospital at Pal Lahara in Angul district.
After preliminary treatment, the doctors said they were out of danger. But the children were in the hospital for further observation, the sources said.
