Berhampur: Sculptures of five elephants made out of artificial grass were unveiled at the Scrap Sculpture Park of the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), here on the occasion of World Elephant Day on Thursday.
The students and instructors of the ITI have designed and developed these elephant structures made out of waste iron bars from a demolished building by wrapping those with artificial grass.
“Normally the artificial grass sculptures are made out of FRP materials. Since the FRP causes pollution due to carbondioxide gas released by those, we have used pollution-free and environmentally friendly materials to prepare the sculptures,” said Dr Rajat Kumar Panigrahi, Principal, ITI.
Prof KVR Charry, Director, IISER, Berhampur said when young skilled professionals take such an initiative, they spread the message that environmental awareness has already started.
Wildlife activist Dr Anantram Kar Kaundinya said the elephant awareness campaign by ITI Berhampur is a milestone in protection of the pachyderms.
