New Delhi: Delhi Police on Thursday arrested five persons for the gangrape of a 15-year-old girl in a hotel here.
She had left home in Haldwani and travelled by train to Delhi where she was enrolled in a school. But her parents were not able to contact her thereafter, and lodged a complaint with local police.
According to a report in Dainik Jagran, the sexual assault took place in a hotel near the Delhi airport on October 5 and 6.
Police rescued the girl by scanning CCTV footage and her mobile phone locations, and handed her over to her parents early this week.
During counselling, she revealed that she was sexually assaulted by a group of men, who were travelling in the same train and shadowed her in the national Capital.
Police checked hotel records, found out IDs of the individuals involved in the crime and arrested them.
According to a report in The Times of India, Haldwani Police said medical tests have confirmed the girl was sexually assaulted.
The accused men have been identified as Sandesh Chiplakar (25), Roshan Patil (29), Yogesh Naik (34) — all from Raigad, Maharashtra — and Delhi duo Ashish Agarkar (30) and Sahil Kumar (24).
On Friday, the arrested persons were sent to jail under BNS Section 70 (gang-rape) and POCSO Act.
