Jajpur: More than 50 people of Patapur village under Jayantara panchayat in Dasarathpur block of Odisha’s Jajpur district were hospitalised on Saturday after allegedly eating ‘Dahibara’ from a street vendor.
According to sources, the villagers purchased the street food from a vendor hailing from a nearby village last evening. Many among them began exhibiting symptoms such as vomiting, stomach pain, and other signs of gastrointestinal distress by night. The affected individuals were taken to Dasarathpur Community Health Centre this morning. More than 30 among them were later shifted to district headquarters hospital here as their condition worsened.
Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Bijay Kumar Mishra visited the hospital and assessed the situation on the ground. Health officials are closely watching the patients’ progress, and investigations are underway to determine the exact cause of the outbreak, the sources further stated.
Possible food contamination, potentially from stale ingredients or unhygienic preparation, is being suspected to have led to the outbreak.
