Bhubaneswar: A record single-day spike of 156 fresh cases in the last 24 hours, took the COVID-19 tally in Odisha to 2014 on Monday.
Kendrapada reported the highest 50 COVID-19 cases, which took the affected tally in the district to 82.
Speaking to media, Kendrapara Collector Samarth Verma said that 36 among them had recently returned from Surat, eight from Mumbai, three from Delhi and one each from Chennai, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
The administration has declared Kansara village as a containment zone after detection of the new cases, he added.
The district had seen 18 people testing positive for the virus on Sunday and among them six were ASHA, anganwadi worker, sanitary staff and some healthcare volunteers engaged in two quarantine centres.
With 57 patients having recovered from the infection, Kendrapada now has 25 active cases.
