New Delhi: COVID-19 was initially considered as a disease affecting the lungs and circulatory system of the human body. However, with time evidence showed that the infection started affecting other body parts too causing rare and unsuspected diseases.
One such result of the deadly virus infection is Acute Hemorrhagic Leukoencephalitis (AHL), whose link to COVID has already been reported in cases outside India which are called COVID Encephalitis.
Now, a case of COVID Encephalitis has been reported from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital where the patient suffered this disease after getting infected with COVID-19, reported news agency IANS.
A 55-year-old man in Jammu, with co-morbidities, had contracted COVID-19 with mild symptoms and isolated himself at his home in Srinagar.
“Being a diabetic and patient of hypertension, his condition started deteriorating within days. Blood oxygen saturation levels plummeted and he was admitted in a local hospital where doctors found his lungs infected with pneumonia. The patient was put on a ventilator. However, when his health did not improve, he was flown to Apollo via air ambulance,” Senior Consultant, Pulmonology & Respiratory Disease at Apollo, Dr Rajesh Chawla was quoted as saying by IANS.
