Bhubaneswar: Around 55,868 girls in the age group of 11-14 years drop out of schools in Odisha, according to a survey taken up by the Women & Child Welfare and Mission Shakti Department.
The maximum number of dropouts are from Koraput (10599), followed by Nabarangpur(8899), Kalahandi (7132) and Malkangiri (5585). Bhadrak recorded zero dropouts.
The department also wrote to the School and Mass Education Department, demanding to address the issue at the earliest.
The state has also been carrying out a Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG) since April, 2018.
School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra, however, rubbished the reports saying, “The Odisha Primary Education Programme Authority survey done in 2017 had revealed that only 1,060 adolescent girls are out of schools in the state.”
