New Delhi: Six suspected ISIS operatives have been arrested by the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh from different parts of the state.
All six accused are associated with Students of Aligarh Muslim University (SAMU), the student organisation of the university, and were associated with each other through SAMU meetings, reported India Today.
The accused were planning a major terror attack in India, according to ATS officials.
Having exposed the terror network of the university’s student body, the ATS claimed that SAMU meetings have become ISIS’ latest recruitment cell.
Four of the six have been identified as Rakib Inam, Naved Siddiqui, Mohammad Noman and Mohammad Nazim.
It was during the interrogation of Rizwan and Shahnawaz, who were arrested by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Pune Islamic State (ISIS) module case, that sleuths got the SAMU lead.
Rizwan and Shahnawaz told investigators that many Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students are engaged in spreading an anti-India agenda through social media and are connected to ISIS’ pan India network.
The UP ATS acted on the information they gathered from Rizwan and Shahnawaz, and arrested six people.
Last month, 4 AMU students were booked by police for taking out a march on the campus in support of Palestine amid the Israel-Hamas war.
