Bhubaneswar: Over 100 schoolchildren from different parts of Odisha have been attending the six-day SOA Summer Techno Camp at the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), faculty of engineering and technology of the SOA Deemed to be University here, on Monday.
The objective of the camp is to engage young minds in emerging technology and provide them exposure through project-based learning in the fields of mechanical, electrical, electronics, electrical and electronics, civil engineering, computer application, climate science, robotics and mechatronics (e.g. drone), physics and mathematics.
Students studying from classes 6 to 11 are participating in the camp.
“The idea is to encourage young students to explore science and technology with emphasis on hands-on learning,” SOA’s dean (research and development) Prof Pradipta Kumar Nanda said at the inaugural function.
Referring to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US, which has the highest number of Nobel Laureates, Prof Nanda said the mandate of the world famous institute was to explore science and find out the how and why of technology.
“Our government was also trying to promote interest of students in science through the ‘Atal Tinkering Lab’, a programme aimed at encouraging the concept of tinkering with ideas at the school level,” he said.
ITER dean Prof P.K. Sahu urged the participating students to take advantage of the opportunity.
The children will also participate in a quiz and drawing competition being organised on Tuesday on the eve of the World Environment Day on the theme of “air pollution”.
