6 New Railway Projects Worth Rs 15,000 Cr Sanctioned For Odisha By Union Cabinet

New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday approved eight new railway line projects, including six for Odisha, with total estimated cost of Rs 24,657 crore.

Sharing details of the decisions taken at the CCEA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw told reporters that several new railway lines for Odisha are among the eight projects which were approved.

Altogether six new railway line projects to be implemented in Odisha with an investment of Rs 15,004 crore received the CCEA nod. Details of the projects:

1. Gunupur-Therubali (New Line) – Rs 1326 crore

2. ⁠Junagarh-Nabrangpur (New Line) – Rs 3274 crore

3. ⁠Malkangiri – Bhadrachalam-Pandurangapuram (New Line) – Rs 4109 crore

4. ⁠Badampahar – Kendujhargarh ( New line)  – Rs 2107 crore

5. ⁠Bangriposi – Gorumahisani (New line) – Rs 2549 crore

6. ⁠Buramara – Chakulia (New line) – Rs 1639 crore

These significant railway projects will provide a substantial medium for development in aspirational districts and tribal-dominated regions, he said, adding that three of the projects are in the southern and western portions of Odisha.

The new line proposals will provide direct connectivity and improve mobility, providing enhanced efficiency and service reliability for Indian Railways. The projects are in line with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s Vision of a New India which will make people of the region “Atmanirbhar” by way of comprehensive development in the area which will enhance their employment/ self-employment opportunities.

The eight projects covering 14 Districts in seven states i.e., Odisha, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Telangana and West Bengal will increase the existing network of Indian Railways by 900 kms.

With these projects 64 new stations will be constructed, providing enhancing connectivity to six (6) Aspirational Districts (East Singhbum, Bhadadri Kothagudem, Malkangiri, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada) with 510 villages and about 40 lakh population.
