Kataka: At least six police personnel, including a police station IIC, were injured in stone-pelting by a group during a Ganesh immersion procession at Baradia village under Mahanga area of Odisha’s Kataka district.
According to information, the incident took place at Baradia village under the jurisdiction of Mahanga police station on Wednesday night.
Sources said the violence erupted after police objected to the use of a high-volume sound system during the immersion procession after 10 pm. The stone-pelting triggered tension in the village. Two police vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
The situation turned tense during the Ganesh immersion procession as the participants mounted an attack on police personnel. IIC of Mahanga police station Jugal Kishore Das and other police personnel sustained injuries and were taken for medical treatment.
Following the incident, Mahanga police detained three people and launched an investigation.
Police are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the stone-pelting. Further investigation into the case is underway.
