Bhubaneswar: The second edition of the mini marathon, organised by KIIT and KISS with the moto ‘Education for all’, was held on Sunday in 35 locations across all Odisha districts and several cities in India.
‘Pattathon,’ a special segment of the event, was conducted in a unique manner in Bhubaneswar.
The early morning ‘Pattathon’ event saw the participation of 6,000 women, who ran wearing traditional pata sarees.
The ‘Pattathon’, organised under the themes of ‘Women Empowerment’ and ‘Education for All,’ featured female employees of KIIT, KISS and KIMS, along with women from various parts of the state.
The participants ran from Shikharchandi Temple Square to KISS Athletics Stadium.
Sushmita Tigga from Sundargarh bagged the first prize of Rs 50,000, while Diptirani Sahu from Kendrapara and Basanti Munda from Cuttack finished second and third, receiving Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000, respectively.
Seven runners-up were awarded Rs 10,000 each. Additionally, all winners were gifted traditional Pata sarees.
The event was organised by K-3 ladies club of KIIT.
Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation mayor Sulochana Das, former chairperson of Odisha State Child Rights Protection Commission Sandhyabati Pradhan, corporators Pritinanda Routray, Yashodhara Pradhan and Laxmipriya Parida, Olympian Dutee Chand and Anuradha Biswal participated in the event.
KIIT and KISS founder Dr Achyuta Samanta, VC Prof. Saranjit Singh, and Registrar Prof. J R Mohanty motivated the participants and presented the awards.
