Bhubaneswar: Voting in the second phase in Odisha for 5 Lok Sabha and 35 State seats was held on Thursday, with 64 per cent polling recorded till 5 PM.
The voting turnout, however, expected to go up as the polling is still underway and will continue in some booths till late evening, the State Chief Electoral Officer Sunrendra Kumar said at a media briefing. The trend indicates, the polling percentage could go up to 71 per cent, he added.
Voting was delayed in dozens of booths in Balangir, Kandhamal and Sundargarh districts due to technical glitches in the EVM machines.
In 2014, the overall voter turnout in Odisha stood at 72.5 per cent.
Kumar said re-polling will be held in six booths for lapses on part of the polling officials during replacement of EVMs and VVPAT machines.
In the first phase, the polling recorded till 6 PM was 68 per cent but went up to 73.76 per cent in the final tally.
