Kataka: A seven-year-old girl went missing from Kataka railway station where she was waiting to board a train along with her maternal grandparents amid suspicion that she may have been kidnapped.
Police suspect that she may have been abducted as CCTV footage obtained during the investigation reportedly showed the girl walking away with an elderly man.
According to information, the elderly couple belonging to Aul area of Kendrapada had come to Kataka along with their granddaughter. They were waiting for a train at the railway station to go to Pallahada in Anugola when the minor girl suddenly disappeared.
They frantically searched for the girl but she was nowhere to be found. They approached the Government Railway Police (GRP) who allegedly refused to register a complaint and asked them to take the matter to Chauliaganj police.
During the search, police obtained CCTV footage from the area. The footage reportedly shows an elderly man taking the girl away. The identity and whereabouts of the person seen with the child were yet to be established.
Police continued the search for the child, but she had not been traced at the time of filing this report. As part of the investigation, the police released a photograph of the suspected person seen in the CCTV footage.
The police also appealed to people to provide any information that could help trace the person or locate the missing child.
A reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced for information about the suspected person in connection with the girl’s disappearance.
