8 Complaints Of Ragging From 2 State-Run Colleges In 16 Months: Odisha Minister



Bhubaneswar: Eight complaints of ragging  were received from two government-run colleges in Odisha in the past 16 months, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj informed the Assembly on Friday.

In a written reply to a question by Congress Legislature Party leader Rama Chandra Kadam, the Minister disclosed that four complaints each were reported from BJB Autonomous College in Bhubaneswar and Government Autonomous College in Rourkela.
Suryabanshi stated that all four complaints, pertaining to at BJB Autonomous College, were resolved amicably through mutual agreement between the parties involved. Appropriate discip

linary action was taken against the accused students with regards to those from the Rourkela college, in accordance with the recommendations of the institution’s anti-ragging cell.

While assuring the House that the anti-ragging cells are vigilant and taking swift action for redressal of such complaints, the Minister further stated that the Higher Education Department is also compiling data on ragging incidents reported from engineering and medical colleges across the state.

The department has periodically issued directives to all colleges and universities, strictly in line with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, to curb the menace of ragging, he added.
