Berhampur: Additional District and Sessions Court Judge 1 in Odisha’s Berhampur on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to eight persons in the sensational murder of M Budu Patra on September 18, 2017.
Those convicted have been identified R Hari Patra, R Lokanath Patra, M Danda Patra, K Bima Patra, K Bairi Patra, M Somesh Patra, R Bhaskar Patra and B Nai Patra. The court pronounced the sentence after hearing 19 witnesses and examining other evidence in the case, additional public prosecutor G Jena told the media.
According to sources, a group of miscreants had attacked Patra with sharp weapons over past rivalry at Ambagada village in Ganjam district. Though he was immediately rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital following the brutal attack, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.
Following which, police registered a case and arrested the eight persons during the next few days. They were lodged in prison since then due to rejection of bail plea.
