Bhubaneswar: Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam arrived in Bhubaneswar at 11.30 am on Friday. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi were at the airport to receive him.
Tharman , who is on a State Visit to India at the invitation of President Droupadi Murmu to mark the six-decade-long relationship between the countries, will be in Odisha for two days during which he will tour the Konark Sun Temple, a vaccine manufacturing plant and the World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar.
He is being accompanied by a high-level delegation, including ministers, MPs, and officials.
The Singapore President will take part in a MoU signing ceremony at the World Skill Centre in the afternoon to extend cooperation in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to further enhance the skill development ecosystem, particularly for the semiconductor industry in the state.
He will be at Centre, which was set up here by Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education and Education Services (ITEES) with funding from the Asian Development Bank, from 3pm to 5.30 pm during which 8 MoUs will be signed between Singapore and Odisha.

On January 18, Shanmugaratnam will visit the Sun Temple in Konark and the vaccine manufacturing plant of Bharat Biotech on the outskirts of the state capital.
The visit assumes significance as it will be Shanmugaratnam’s first visit to the state ahead of ‘Utkarsh Odisha: Make-in-Odisha conclave’. Singapore is first country partner of the state’s flagship biennial investors’ meet scheduled for January 28-29.

On Thursday, a security delegation from Singapore has arrived in Bhubaneswar to finalise arrangements for the visit. The team is working closely with Commissionerate Police to ensure comprehensive security measures are in place with deployment of 40 platoons of police forces.
Bhubaneswar will witness robust safeguarding measures, particularly with the visit to significant sites in Puri.
