Phulbani: Eight hostel inmates of Salaguda Sevashram School in Phiringia block of Odisha’s Kandhamal district were hospitalised on Friday after some fellow students allegedly applied Fevikwik adhesive to their eyes while they were asleep after having dinner last night.
According to sources, the Class IV & V students were immediately rushed to Gochhapada primary health centre and later seven among them were shifted to Phulbani district headquarters hospital (DHH) for specialised care at around noon. The District Welfare Officer (DWO) of Kandhamal also visited the hospital to review the situation and ensure proper care for the children.
While many believe it to be a prank which went horribly wrong, parents and community leaders have called for stricter monitoring in hostels to prevent a recurrence.
Meanwhile, local sarpanch Rohit Kahanra accused teachers of irregular attendance and declining academic standards at the school. The Sarpanch further stated that he repeatedly raised the issue with the district administration, block development officer, and district welfare officer, but in vain.
