Bhubaneswar: The proposed Kharagpur-Tangi-Visakhapatnam-Vijayawada high-speed corridor will connect nine Odisha districts — Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput — and link 27 towns and cities.
Of the entire corridor, spanning 1,102 km across West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh, a 522-km greenfield stretch will pass through Odisha.
Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary of Odisha government’s Works Department, chaired a high-level meeting at Lok Seva Bhawan on Monday to discuss the proposed greenfield high-speed expressway that will enhance connectivity across eastern India.
The meeting focused on the proposed alignment, district-wise coverage, economic zones, urban connectivity and land acquisition aspects for the Odisha segment of the ambitious 6-lane highway.
The project is expected to integrate Odisha’s mining and industrial areas with ports and coastal economic zones, that will facilitate better access and boost regional development.
Ganjam will have the longest stretch (97 km), followed by Dhenkanal (88 km), Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar (86 km each) and Rayagada (53 km).
