Bhubaneswar: Nine members of an inter-state gang of robbers, allegedly involved in loot at several apartments in Bhubaneswar, have been arrested by the Commissionerate Police.
The special squad of the Commissionerate Police seized cash to the tune of Rs 3.20 lakh, 1.5 kg silver ornaments, gold ornaments, four motorcycles, eight mobile phones and other articles from the nine arrested persons. Commissioner of Police Sanjeeb Panda gave this information at a press meet in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
The gang is stated to be headed by Girish Nayak alias Dada, against whom two murder cases are pending. Interrogation of the arrested persons showed that they were involved in the loot at an apartment in Mancheswar in the city. They had allegedly looted four flats in Space Town complex.
They are allegedly involved in six other cases in the state capital.
More than 40 criminal cases are pending against another member of the gang, identified as Bulu Patra from Ganjam. He had allegedly looted around eight kg gold from a jewellery shop in 2015.
Preliminary investigation showed that the gang members were also involved in loot incidents in Chhattisgarh, Mumbai and Hyderabad, police said. Further investigation is in progress and police in other states would also be contacted as part of the probe.
