Bhubaneswar: As power infrastructure was severely hit by cyclone Dana in several parts of Odisha, efforts are on to complete over 90 per cent of electricity supply in affected areas by Friday night, said Deputy Chief Minister K V Singh Deo.
The cyclone has severely impacted the electrical infrastructure across several districts, including Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur and Jajpur.
The electricity distribution companies (DISCOMs) have mobilised their resources swiftly following directives from the government. Restoration efforts began immediately after the cyclone caused widespread damage. By 2 pm, substantial progress has been made, with restoration operations currently benefiting around ten lakh consumers.
Specific figures reveal that out of 106 affected 33kV feeders, 72 have already been restored. Similarly, of the 201 primary substations impacted, 116 are back online. For the 909 affected 11kV feeders, 504 have been restored, and 39,903 out of 80,135 distribution transformers are now operational. In total, over 11.4 lakh consumers have regained power supply.
The Deputy CM emphasised that restoration work is being carried out on a “war footing” to ensure that the situation can return to normalcy as quickly as possible. The government is closely monitoring the situation and is committed to restoring full service in the affected regions, he said.
